That tiny, cheap, stable dose is why “anti-wrinkle” wording blankets Korean packaging.
What it is
A molecule found naturally in every living cell (it’s the “A” in ATP). In cosmetics it’s a stable, colorless, low-irritation ingredient — which is precisely why it beat fussier ingredients like retinol to become Korea’s default functional anti-aging entry.
What it’s used for
On Korean products, primarily to earn the 주름개선 기능성 certification — a regulated claim category, not a promise of results. Formulators like that it slots into almost any formula, including sunscreens, without stability or irritation headaches. Whether visible change follows depends on the whole formula and your skin; the certification tells you the notified ingredient is present at the notified level, no more and no less.
In the Korean market
29.6% of the catalog: essences/serums (506), sunscreens (385), creams (366). The sunscreen number mirrors the niacinamide pattern — triple-functional sunscreens (차단+미백+주름) are a uniquely Korean shelf phenomenon. Adenosine’s most frequent partner is niacinamide itself (1,894 shared products — the functional-label duo), then hyaluronic acid (857) and ceramide NP (825). Most-committed brands: Mediheal (47), Abib (42), Medicube (42).
Who tends to like it / who should be careful
One of the least reactive anti-aging ingredients; suitable when retinoids feel like too much. Reports of irritation are uncommon.
